A small-but-technically-dedicated group all happened to arrive at the same time, promptly at 6:00 p.m., to hear Shane’s presentation on his new product for Drive Cleaning. And, we were ready to have sushi!
As it turned-out, Shane was delayed, so we began ordering. Those who ordered from the kitchen were served promptly (having previously-learned that food ordered from the kitchen takes a long time.) During the salad course, Shane arrived and shared an abbreviated presentation.
His product competes with others on the market; however, his is much faster than the competition. Everyone was quick to caution him about trusting any kind of collaboration with market leaders in that space, sharing war stories about past failures.
Shane plans to return next month to show off more features that are in development. Part II is scheduled for 5/2/24, starting at 6:30 p.m.; however, the venue will change…why?
After everyone else was served two courses—about one hour—I finally inquired about the food that had been ordered from the Sushi Bar, where I had noticed, as we arrived, that two Sushi Chefs were hanging around awaiting orders. That triggered an immediate response and I was served what looked like shredded cat food stuffed into the top of hand-rolled rice-filled nori. As I tried to eat it, the contents spilled out onto the floor…This is what passed for Salmon Skin Hand Roll…instead of a slice of meat-backed grilled salmon skin tightly wrapped around avocado in a bed of rice and wrapped by nori. Egad! Nor was that the only issue!
While I truly like Kathy, the new Owner, she’s had about six months to come up-to-speed after taking over a goin’ concern that had been serving great food! We decided we need a new venue…so we took a poll of those present, and the majority voted for: Bambu!
Upon leaving Shiki, Glen and I went off to Bambu for a post-sushi meal: Crab Cakes & Shrimp Cocktail, accompanied by their delicious Fruit Plate with a side of warm Waffle Chips. Dessert options included Coconut Key Lime Pie: best I’ve ever had, even when I lived in Key West!
We will be changing venues for the May meeting; Bambu has welcomed us for outdoor dining on Thursday, May 2, 2024, starting at 6:30. Orders for our small group will most likely take around 15-20 minutes for the Grill Chefs to prepare. During that time, Shane will deliver Part 2 of his presentation on his Drive Cleaning product. We are hoping for some delightful weather to envelop our canopy-covered table on Bambu’s patio. And, I have requested they again offer their fabulous Coconut Key Lime Pie as a dessert option. Yum!
We have reserved a small table (for ~ 6 people) on the patio. If we happen to have more people join us, we might be able to find an adjoining table…first come, first served! 6:30! Be there!
AGAIN, TO BE CLEAR: BOTH MEETING & PRESENTATION BEGIN AT 6:30 P.M.
