Rogue Tech Talks: September 2025

We continue to attract new techies for our meetings; some “returning” to the group that was formerly known as SOGGY (Southern Oregon Geek Group), others from tech networking connections. Once everyone settles-down from summer activities, we may need to reserve a larger table!

This month brought a new techie who identifies as a Tech Pal, working with techies to help them over a rough spot encountered in coding. He fit right in!

The presentation this month was given by Corey who impressed us with statistics from Jackson County 911 Operations (ECSO911) where he keeps everything running…unless there’s a power outage. To that end, he discovered a new tool: a SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) System.

A SIEM system collects, aggregates, normalizes, and analyzes security-related data from across an organization’s IT infrastructure. Read the details in the attached document.

Corey continues to expand the intelligence tools available to 911 Dispatchers, in order to assist them in providing the fastest response time to those in need. Everyone was amazed at the vast amount of data collected by this system! Thanks, Corey!

Next month, Glen will be presenting commentary on a newly-discovered book about our brains. The author is a stellar writer with the ability to clearly-explain details about the operation of the most complex component of the human body; distilling neuroscience concepts down to operations that can be understood by anyone who can read. The book is especially engaging for those people who have a strong interest in AI.
